MiAoLo TH220 PLUS | The ultimate evolution of dynamic-balanced armature TWS headphones with detailed and distinct sound

MiAoLo TH220 PLUS | The ultimate evolution of dynamic-balanced armature TWS headphones with detailed and distinct sound

In recent years, the market for true wireless earbuds has remained hot. As some well-known audio brands at home and abroad have launched their own TWS earbuds, there are also some domestic brands that focus on the true wireless market with high sound quality. Miole, which we are talking about today, is one of them.

I have known this brand for a few years, but I don't use true wireless earphones very often. I mostly use them when I travel by high-speed rail or plane. I also use them for daily commuting except for watching TV series. I don't use them very often at other times. But after receiving the earphones and listening to them, I think the sound is quite good. The ring-iron structure is actually a relatively high-end configuration in true wireless earphones.

【Product Overview】

TH220 PLUS uses a 3D printed resin cavity, with three panel effects to choose from: blue, crimson, and purple. It has a 1 dynamic coil + 1 balanced armature structure, which is not low in configuration among true wireless earphones. It supports Bluetooth 5.2 version, aptX audio format, and 28 hours of battery life. Since the main focus is on sound quality, the selection of speaker units is also very particular. TH220 PLUS is equipped with a 7.5mm external magnetic dynamic coil unit and a Knowles balanced armature.

The battery compartment storage box is not much different from the general true wireless earbuds, except that there is an extra layer of gray denim on the surface. The feel is okay, but you need to be careful when placing it in daily life, and try not to put it together with sharp objects to avoid scratching the denim on the surface. But this layer of denim adds a sense of high-end to the TH220 PLUS. After all, if it is not covered with cloth, it will only have a slow plastic feel. You know, this battery compartment is made of pure plastic. Without this layer of cloth, the grade is immediately lowered. 28 hours of battery life is enough. For my usage habits, I can go almost a week without charging. The charging port is a Type-C interface.

【User experience】

To be honest, for resin ear shells like this, if you have sweaty hands, it is best to wipe your hands before taking out the earplugs, otherwise they will slip easily and the earplugs cannot be taken out due to magnetic attraction. The fit and comfort are acceptable, not much different from the general resin public mold, but it is a bit uncomfortable to wear when sleeping. Of course, if your concha cavity is large enough, then it may be okay to wear it when sleeping. The storage box is not big, and the portability is still good. It will not take up much space when put in the bag. Except that the flip cover is a little tight, there are no other complaints. The TYPE-C charging port is convenient to use. Android phone users can charge directly with the mobile phone charger. Overall, this is a true wireless with good user experience. The Bluetooth stability is not as good as the true wireless launched by some mobile phone brands, but as an audio manufacturer, it is OK. I didn't deliberately test the extreme distance of Bluetooth connection. I used it at home, the mobile phone was in the living room, and I wore the earplugs and walked around the corner into the room. The aptX specification, the signal will occasionally be intermittent, please see, of course, the mobile phone is with me, then the connection stability is perfect.

【Listening experience】

After two months of use, I have a general understanding of the style of this earbud. This is a true wireless earbud with a good sound atmosphere, bright tone, and clear detail restoration. The dynamic coil and the dynamic iron structure create a warm and infectious low frequency, while the dynamic iron guarantees the sound density, line sense and resolution of the earbud. The three-frequency performance is relatively balanced. The following is a simple audition sharing.

Sound source:

Find X5 Pro <Dimensity Edition> (OPPO)

KANN ULTRA (Astell&Kern)

Find X5 Pro + TH220 PLUS

The stability of connecting to the phone is better than that of the player, after all, the mobile phone Bluetooth is more stable. But on the headphone side, compared with the Bluetooth headphones of OPPO, the TH220 PLUS is slightly inferior. In terms of sound, the TH220 PLUS supports aptX, which is relatively more reliable than some true wireless earbuds that only support AAC and SBC. I use an Android phone, so AAC is not as well supported as Apple phones. aptX is okay, better than AAC on my phone.

I chose two pop songs I like to listen to. Jacky Cheung's " Black and White Painting " and Gigi Leung's "And I Love You So" both sound good. Pop music is very suitable for this earplug. The bass volume and elasticity are just right. Even if the dive is a little conservative, the low frequency is still relatively clean overall. Especially for Jacky's song, the bass is easy to have excessive volume, which is quite a test for the earplug. For the vocal part, TH220 PLUS is not too close, the distance of the vocal is relatively clear, and the mouth shape is moderate. The effect of pop female voice is slightly better than that of pop male voice. The second song I listened to was Gigi Leung's "And I Love You So" . The vocal part is transparent and true, with emotion, but not overly rendered and modified. It is a transparent and natural style. The accompaniment of the guitar and the vocal separation is clear, and the sound is straightforward and unambiguous. The effect of the female voice is slightly better than that of the male voice. The sound field space presented by the two pop music is also enough to stretch, and there is no feeling of cramped oppression.

KANN ULTRA + TH220 PLUS

I chose a piece of pop music as a trial listening, but the effect of connecting the player to TH220 PLUS is not as stable as that of connecting to a mobile phone. The aptX format is prone to lag in an environment with obvious signal interference.

<Rainbow>

I chose to listen to the cover of Tokunaga Hideaki's famous song <レイニーブルー> sung by Shinji Tanimura. This song is included in the collection released by Mr. Tanimura in 2017. It is a relatively new recording. After listening to the whole song, this combination gave me a vivid and delicate feeling, with sufficient bass, clear vocal imaging, slightly small mouth shape, but a prominent sense of space, distinct layers, good sound field depth, and the treble part is not too sharp, which moderately maintains a relatively balanced listening tolerance. The most profound impression this combination gave me is that the sound field is well expressed, the details are clear, and the layers are distinct. Pop music, whether it is Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan or South Korea, can be handled with ease.

Last words…

After listening to the two sets of combinations, TH220 PLUS is a true wireless headset that focuses on sound quality. At this price, its sound performance is basically worthy of its price. Of course, many mobile phone brands have launched true wireless earbuds that support high-definition audio formats, and the choices within a thousand yuan are much richer than in the early years. However, some high-end true wireless earbuds from mobile phone brands still take into account battery life and stability, and true wireless earbuds that focus on sound quality are basically concentrated in traditional earphone brands.

Compared with the previous generation of products, TH220 PLUS is more mature in tuning and has basically no obvious shortcomings in sound. If there is a next-generation product, I hope it can further improve the bass dive and cohesion. The only drawback of this earplug in the current field of true wireless earplugs is that it does not support active noise reduction function, and can only rely on product sound insulation, the sealing of the silicone sleeve and other external conditions to consolidate its sound insulation ability. The next generation of products may consider adding a very practical noise reduction function while improving the sound quality, so that the product competitiveness will be taken to a higher level.
